Dream, meet wall
View projectWith the Dream down 3-2 to the Valkyries in the WNBA Finals, I tested whether Golden State's defense was shutting down Angel Reese or the whole Dream offense. Using Sportradar box scores and play-by-play shot locations, I broke the Dream's scoring into paint, three-point, free-throw and midrange points. After scoring 92.6 points a game in the earlier playoff rounds, the Dream were at 71.4 against Golden State, the WNBA's stingiest regular-season defense: paint scoring fell from 43.6 points a game in the regular season to 28.8 in the Finals, and three-point scoring from 26.9 to 18.0. Reese scored 30 in Game 2 but 36 total over the next three games.
